Program Components:

This program utilizes a hybrid format to accommodate working professionals. Students progress through the curriculum while engaging in ongoing clinical consultation and working towards the completion of their Doctoral Project.

  • Advanced Online Coursework: Delivered through a dynamic learning management system, incorporating interactive lectures, scholarly readings, multimedia resources, discussion forums, and applied learning activities.

  • Intensive In-Person Clinical Residencies: Held once per academic year, these immersive experiences prioritize advanced experiential training, focused classroom instruction, intensive small-group supervision, live and video-based case consultations, specialized skills workshops, and professional networking opportunities with faculty and peers.

  • Live Online Classrooms and Supervision: Held monthly. A complete Academic Calendar and Course Catalog will be provided upon submission of your application.

Admissions Structure:

This program is flexible and allows for rolling enrollment. You may join the program at any time and you’ll meet your cohort during the next live classroom or supervision session (held approximately monthly).

The program spans two academic years. It strategically integrates self-paced online learning, live online education, supervision and intensive in-person clinical residencies. At the completion of the two academic years and comprehensive examination, the Doctoral Project is formally reviewed.

This structure provides support for students at all stages of the program and at varying levels of clinical experience.

Prerequisites: 

  • A Master’s degree in counseling, therapy or clinical field with a licensure option

  • Must be certified in sex therapy, counseling or coaching from an approved program or currently in SHA's comprehensive Certification Program (actively working toward completion).

  • *Approved Certification Programs include:

    • Sexual Health Alliance or Similar

    • Programs with coursework of 150+ CE hours

    • 45+ live or in-person training hours (Example: SHA’s Sexceptional Weekends)

    • Completion of one SAR (14 CEs)

    • Up-to-date curriculum and organizational standards
